Japan: Land of the Rising Sun Spring Break 2024 Tour

Are you interested in touring Japan next Spring Break?  We are planning a Belmont trip for an 11-day tour of Japan’s temples, shrines, technology parks, bamboo forests, bullet trains, Tokyo shopping district, mountain viewpoints, Hiroshima Memorial Park, and much more! Students have this incredible opportunity to travel safely and experience the wonders of Japan’s culture, traditions and history through the partnership of Belmont teachers and E.F. Educational Tours.

Belmont Night Live

Students, friends, families, and community members are invited to join us for an unforgettable evening of talent and fun at “Belmont Night Live”. Enjoy a live house band, some friendly student/teacher rivalry and a vibrant showcase that celebrates our diverse and talented community. Don’t miss out on this fun opportunity to see out the school year! Entrance is by donation on the door.

Belmont Dance Program

The Belmont Dance Program participated in the first ever Sooke Dance Showcase at Royal Bay Secondary on Thursday, May 11. Students from around the district performed various pieces in a variety of styles for an adjudicator, and took part in a group Masterclass at the end of the day. Congratulations to all the performers!

Spring stock market challenge kicks-off!

Belmont students are off to a hot start in Junior Achievement’s national student stock market challenge! Students from Mr. Grainger’s Entrepreneurship & Marketing 10 class are currently competing with over 1600 teams from across the country and on Monday, Ryan B. and Caleb W. were in first place in all of Canada! And as the week went on, Rhys M. and Hunter T. pulled into 11th place nationally. Students are given $100,000 in a virtual simulation to see who can build the largest portfolio of stocks and ETF’s. All the best to our students over the next six weeks!

We have had some great moves in the last 24 hours. There are now over 2000 teams competing nation-wide in the stock challenge and currently 5 of the top 7 are from Belmont.

Dylan R.(+15% this week) – currently 2nd place in all of Canada

Ryan B. and Caleb W.(+13% this week) – currently 4th in all of Canada

Chase G. and Dion B.(+13% this week) – currently 5th in Canada

Adam A. and Ryan R.(+12% this week) – currently 7th in Canada

Hunter T. and Rhys M. (+3.15% this week) – currently 47th in Canada

They’ve been spending a lot of time watching the business channels and keeping on top of things.

Climbing Academy Updates

Congratulations to our climbing academy students who participated in Tour de Block this weekend! They did a fantastic job representing our school.

Jacob P. – 1st place in Experienced Male

Levi P. – 2nd place in Experienced Male 

Annabelle H.- 9th place in Experienced Female

Our next competition will be at The Boulders  Stelly’s Climbing Gym on June 2nd. Wish us luck! 

Congratulations to Belmont Drumline who placed 2nd at the Provincial Drumline championships!

Belmont Golf Team

The Golf Team has participated in 3 tournaments to date placing in the top 5 each time. Recently defeating Royal Bay in our first ever Ryder Cup challenge.  The team will be starting the playoff run.

June 5-7th for BC’s (need to qualify)

My Blueprint Scholarships  
Students will have until May 28th at 11:59pm ET to complete the Entry Form.  From that group of applicants myBlueprint will randomly select 25 students, then they will submit an application form.  From there  5 scholarships of $1000 each will be given out.
Deadline: May 28th, yearly  

Lime Connect Pathways Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students who consider themselves to have a disability, visible or invisible.
Deadline:  May 29th, Midnight – 2023

Juan de Fuca Soccer Association Dick Darley Scholarship
To be eligible for consideration of this $500 scholarship, the candidate must:
    a) Be a grade 12 student
    b) Have played a minimum of three years in the Juan de Fuca Soccer Association
    c) Be dedicated and have contributed to the Juan de Fuca Soccer Association

The Union of National Employees
The Union of National Employees offers a yearly $1000 bursary to one BC high school student. Applicants must complete the application form and submit a 1200 to 1500-word essay detailing how the union movement has “helped to build the social values that Canadians hold dear”.

Rotary Club of Victoria Harbourside
For 2022, the following seven Scholarships are available:

  • Three (3) Rotary Club of Harbourside Victoria Scholarships ($1,500 each)
  • One (1) Scholarship giving preference to an Indigenous Student ($1,500)
  • Three (3) Charter Member Scholarships ($2,000 each)
    • One (1) scholarship awarded to a student who has a hearing or speech impairment or will be pursuing a career in speech pathology or audiology, in the name of Marke Hambley.
    • One (1) scholarship awarded to a student who has been involved in the military community or who has a member of their family who has served or is serving in the military, in the name of Tom Martin.
    • One (1) scholarship awarded to a student who has shown a deep involvement in athletics or will be pursuing a career related to athletics, in the name of Mike Creery.

Scholarships will be given to graduating students from School Districts 61, 62, and 63.

Bernice Harriet Osborne Memorial Basketball Scholarship
Applicants must have participated in the Victoria & District Amateur Basketball Association (preference given to those who have participated for a longer period of time), and set a good example in life, school, athletics for his/her community. Financial need will be considered.

Westshore Arts Council Scholarships
The West Shore Arts Council is happy to announce that they are offering $500 scholarships again!  Successful applicants currently attend high school, and plan to enroll in further education at a recognized post-secondary institution to pursue a career in the fine arts.  This could include music, dance, theatre, film, visual arts, literary arts, digital arts, and others.

Metchosin Foundation Scholarships

For students residing in Metchosin.  Various categories available in academic excellence, environmental stewardship, community service and residents of Beecher Bay Sc’ianew Nation.

ICA Diversity Scholarships
ICA’s Diversity Scholarships are awarded to students from a diverse and/or immigrant background who demonstrate in their academic and community work active support for strong community values around diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Capital Region. 

  1. One $2,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is accepted into a diploma or degree program at a college or university for 2022/23 in the Capital Region
  2. One $5,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior of Indian descent who is accepted into a college or university for 2022/23

Deadline:  June 17th,  2022
