Earth Day Activities
These are all our Belmont Outdoor Ed 9-12, Environmental Science 11, Social Justice 12 students. The educators that I have the privilege of partnering with are Megan Bondurant, Brechan Bird and Georgina Tran. We are all working hard to help educate and do action in support of all living things with the goal of creating biodiversity to sustain life. We spent the entire day today and removing invasive species and planting native trees donated by Langford Parks. Shelby Newcombe provided the expertise and support for our student to work hard all day long. We are all grateful for the donation of resources and time.
We are currently working on a native grass, trees, and plants reclamation project of hillside adjacent to Belmont. We have an ongoing invasive species removal program. If anyone is interested in making native plant donations please contact me.

It’s music festival season here in the Belmont Music Department! After a two year hiatus, it’s pretty exciting to get on a bus and head out to perform and listen to live music, and learn from respected adjudicators. On April 13th, our Concert band 9/10 and Sr. Wind Ensemble travelled to Port Alberni to participate in the Vancouver Island Concert band festival. It was a fantastic day that ended with pizza in the park 😊. Our Jazz Band spent April 26th in Nanaimo at the West Coast Jazz Festival where they heard lots of great music and were awarded Silver for their polished performance.
Our Vocal Jazz Ensemble will have its turn on April 30 at the Oak bay Vocal Jazz Festival in the company of other local high school groups. They’ll share the stage with Soundsation, a college Vocal Jazz group from Edmonds, WA. That concert is open to the public and takes place at Oak Bay High School at 7:00 pm. Our amazing Drumline is off to Abbotsford for the Canadian Drumline Competition on May 5/6, where they will try to beat last years’ second place finish. Last but not least is the West Coast Choir Festival on May 11, where our Concert Choir will showcase their work.
Great to return to a busy April!
Congratulations to Dance Company! They performed at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival last week, and had three pieces selected to be performed in the “Highlights” performance at the end of the festival. This event is open to the public, and takes place on Wednesday, May 11 at the Farquhar Auditorium at UVIC at 7:00 pm. Please come support Belmont’s dancers! Tickets are available on the Farquhar Auditorium website https://tickets.uvic.ca/TheatreManager/1/tmEvent/tmEvent3042.html.
Come join the dance program! The final audition to join Dance Company for next year will be on Wednesday, May 18 in the Theatre from 4:30-6:00 pm! If you feel passionate about dance, want to develop your dance skills and creativity, and find a fun community where you can build friendships, then come audition! Some previous dance experience in any style(s) is preferred, but everyone is welcome to audition! Visit the dance studio or email Ms. Narciso (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Ms. Kaupas (email@example.com) if you have questions!
