Study Hall Week

March 4-7, 3:30-5:00 (Learning Commons); Here is an opportunity to finish those half-done assignments, seek extra help before any tests, or finish projects before spring break. Open to all students. Teachers from Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and more will be there to assist.

Child Sponsorship

A student led committee at Belmont is working towards raising money to sponsor a child living in impoverished communities abroad. This money will go towards providing that child with support to help break the cycle of poverty, from food and water to healthcare and education. 

To help please consider: 

1. Bringing your bottles to the bottle drive on March 9th, from 9am to 2pm at Belmont Secondary, or

2. Volunteering to help at the March 9 bottle drive, or 

3. Returning the bottles to any Return It bottle depot and depositing them under the account with the number 7785330891.

Climbing Academy

Congratulations to all our Climbing Academy students who completed at our climbing competition on Friday, February 16th, at Langford BoulderHouse. Our athletes worked very hard preparing for this competition and we are extremely proud of their hard work. Once again, they hardly shared the podium.

Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities:

Mrs. Hoskins will be offering district, Belmont, and PAC scholarship application support in the learning commons at lunch March 4th to 9th for those who need it. 

Sooke Teachers’ Association Scholarships 
Seven scholarships of $1000 each are available to students of the Sooke School District who are planning to attend full-time post-secondary school. In addition to an application form, students must also submit a resume and their transcript.   Please note that three of the 7 awards are reserved for students whose parents are members of the Sooke Teachers’ Association and one of the 7 scholarships is reserved for an Indigenous student. See the application for more detail.  Shortlisted students will be interviewed in May to assist with making the final selection of winners.

RE/MAX 2023 Quest for Excellence
The Quest for Excellence Program recognizes the pursuits in leadership and community contributions of Western Canadian students. High school students graduating in 2021 from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and Northwest Territories are encouraged to write an essay to convey the contributions they have made to enrich the lives of others and their communities through leadership, motivation, volunteering and participation in charitable events or fundraising.

Principals and Vice-Principals Association (BCPVPA) Scholarships 

Scholarships, in the amount of $1000 each, are awarded annually to students who are graduating from the BC public school system and proceeding to a post-secondary institution.

All applicants will be judged on academic excellence and demonstrated leadership within the school and community.

Girl Guides of Canada
Scholarships are open to members who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized college, university or trades program. Scholarships are available for both full-time and part-time studies.

Power Pioneers Community Service Award
The BC Hydro Power Pioneers are recognizing youth who have excelled in community service. There are twenty $500 awards available throughout British Columbia. We’re looking for students who have made outstanding contributions in their local community for a considerable amount of time or have initiated, organized or contributed significantly to a one–time project.

District Authority Awards 

(BC Ministry of Education Provincial Scholarship) – Last year 47 Belmont students won one of these.

The District Awards recognize graduating B.C. students for excellence in their chosen area of interest. Winners will receive a $1,250 scholarship voucher to use towards their post-secondary tuition. Students have up to five years to use this voucher. The district will be able to award over 100 of these scholarships to district students. There are seven categories to choose from: Fine Arts, Applied Skills, Physical Activity, International Languages, Community Service, Indigenous Language & Culture, and Technical and Trades Training.  (Note: You may apply in more than one category. A separate application must be submitted for each category to which you are applying.)  
Deadline:  April 17th, at 3:30PM, 2024

  • LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED: Start your application before spring break.
  • Asking for a transcript or references or to get your counselor’s signature the morning of April 13th will be TOO LATE.

Monk Office Supply Scholarship
This award recognizes a student who displays good citizenship and social responsibility at school and in the community and who plans to enter the field of environmental studies. The value of the award varies from year to year.

Ron Warder Memorial Scholarship 
The spirit of this $750 award is not necessarily to recognize outstanding academic excellence, but rather to champion a student who embodies the qualities that Ron Warder embodied: leadership, community action, creativity, respect, perseverance, relationship-building, and a passion for supporting the school community and community at large. Requirements: “C+” average or better; participated in student government, clubs, school teams, and/or community activities; and displayed dedication and leadership in their service of school and/or community; and can demonstrate a positive impact on school and/or community through service.

Victor Chen Memorial Engineering:
Student planning on going into programs such as engineering, especially at BCIT or Camosun, with good grades, service within the school and community,  and financial need
Will be a district wide scholarship as of 2020.

Mosaic Forest Management Scholarship:

Awarded to an SD62 graduating student who is entering an education program in the field of forestry.  Consideration may be given to students pursuing post-secondary programs in fisheries or resource management.
