Grade 12 Capstone Presentations

A huge shout out to Grade 12 students, Careers Staff, and community volunteers who made it here bright and early today to host Capstone interviews! The enthusiasm and skills of Belmont’s Grade 12s are impressive! If there are students who are concerned they missed this opportunity because of snow, they should reach out to their Careers teacher who will organize an alternate opportunity.


Winter Wonderland Breakfast

Many thanks to the staff and leadership students who organized a wonderful breakfast and games morning on December 22nd! A huge shout out to the band for providing wonderful entertainment!


Athletics

Congratulations to our Junior Boys Basketball team who won their tournament this weekend at Spectrum. The final game came down to the last shot and Grade 9 Ryder Rajotte hit the game winning three pointer at the buzzer to send the crowd into a frenzy.

Both the Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams finished third place in their respective tournaments.

Both the Junior girls tier 1 and Junior boys tier 2 teams won one game in their tournaments with the junior girls winning an overtime thriller 47-45.

The judging for the In-house round of the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Poster and Literary contest has now been completed.  Congratulations to Cameron Pelletier who won:

1st Place Senior Poem

1st Place Senior Black & White Poster for Grade 12 student

Cameron will be accepting his award at the Royal Canadian Legion on January 21st.

Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities:

1.Prestige Photography Scholarship:

Class of 2024 graduates photographed by Prestige Photography can apply for a scholarship by sharing their Prestige Photography experience in a formal one-page essay. A total of 3 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded between United States and Canada. Essays may be used to promote Prestige Photography. The essay topic is as follows:

“Tell us what grad year means to you and how your Prestige pictures help celebrate your
achievements.”

How do you apply? Simply complete the application form and submit your one-page formal essay. Next, print and mail your application and essay to Prestige College Scholarship Program, Lifetouch National School Studios, Attn: Prestige Marketing, 11000 Viking Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344. Applications must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2024.

2. Kin Canada Foundation Scholarship

$1,000 bursaries are awarded to successful Canadian applicants with financial need who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized university, community college, technical institute and other schools for advanced education. The application requires information about your financial situation, community service, and that you indicate some knowledge or experience with Kin Canada (Kinsmen and Kinettes).

3. RBC Future Launch Indigenous Youth Scholarship 

This award is for Indigenous students to help them complete their post-secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen its relationship with the Indigenous community. Selected students are awarded up to $10,000 each academic year (for up to four years) to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies and living expenses. This is for indigenous students who demonstrate a strong academic performance and community involvement. 5 scholarships for students majoring in disciplines related to the financial industry and 15 scholarships to all other disciplines.

4. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award (Zonta)

​This scholarship opportunity is open to  girls age 16-19 in Greater Victoria who are involved in their communities.  There is a  Zonta Victoria local prize awarded and the winner’s application is then considered for a district  prize (Zonta District 8) of $2500 USD, so about $2000 CAN. The  district winner’s application will then be submitted  to the International level with the potential award of  $4,000 USD from the Zonta International Foundation.  Must be emailed to zipp.barbie@gmail.com by February 9th, 2024.

5. BC General Employees Union 

BCGEU is offering scholarships for post-secondary studies for members, staff, and their families. They offer $85,000 annually in the form of $2000 scholarships for full-time students and $1000 for part-time students.

6. BC Excellence Scholarship (BC Ministry of Education)
You must be nominated by Belmont in order to apply for this scholarship and only one student from each school may be nominated. Our nominee then applies to the province for one of the 55 Excellence Scholarship vouchers of $5000.  Successful students will have demonstrated community service, both inside and outside of school, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career OR post-secondary paths.  To be considered for our nomination, your completed nomination form must be submitted to Mrs. Hoskins in the GRAD GOOGLE CLASSROOM on or before the deadline.

Nomination form due: January 30th, 2024 @ 5:00PM to Grad 2024 Google Classroom

7. Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship – BC Ministry of Education

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching. Winners receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher to redeem when they are registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education.
