2023 Sr Boys Rugby 7s Summary

The 2023 Sr Boys Rugby 7s team had a tremendous season, and they should be very proud of their achievements this year. They got things off to a great start by taking 3rd place at the Westshore 7s tournament in March. The team then completely dominated the regular season league, going 7 – 0, scoring 231 for, and only 26 points against. In the Island Finals tournament they went 3-1 losing a hard fought battle against Stelly’s in the Championship game.

Having booked a birth in the Provincial Championship we headed to Abbotsford with high expectations. On the 1st day of pool play we went 3 – 0, beating Kelowna Christian 38-0, Windsor 33-12, and St. Thomas Moore 27-0. This put us 1st in our pool, and set us up well for the Championship round. Unfortunately we came up short in our ¼ final against a very pumped up Argyle team, losing 10-12. Although this was very disappointing we rallied and finished strong going on to beat Chatelech 38-5, and Windsor 38-0 earning a respectable 5th place in the Province. Thank you to all the players for a great season, and a special shout out to the grade 12s. Go Dawgs.

Belmont BBQ and Backyard Games Day

Belmont had a great turn out for our second annual Backyard Games Day and Race. Thank you everyone who helped and participated in this community event.

Belmont is hosting the CUE (Canadian University Event) on September 25, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 pm in the Learning Commons

What is CUE and what do they do?

The Canadian Universities Event (CUE) is a forum designed to highlight Canada’s universities to British Columbia’s secondary school students and families. CUE brings together over 50 of Canada’s finest post-secondary institutions and showcases them over two weeks in September/October. We are committed to helping students find their perfect fit in Canadian post-secondary education.

Environmental Stewardship Funds received from City of Langford

Many thanks to Dayna Christ-Rowling and the Environmental Stewardship funds received from the City of Langford! We now have 3 new, beautiful seating areas for classes!

Family Games Night

Belmont’s first Family Games night was well attended on Thursday May 25th. Hosted in the Learning Commons, students, and their families came together to challenge themselves while learning to play new games. Interactivity Board Game Café provided all of the games, and the expertise for teaching how to play the games.

Student Retreat at Camosun

We were excited to host Belmont’s first Student Retreat, which took place at the Camosun Interurban Campus on the Traditional Territories of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. The Student Retreat had approximately 40 students from Grades 9-12 attend, and students attended sessions focused on Connection to Self, Others, and with the Land. The purpose of the Retreat was to help promote student leadership and equity, to help further strengthen our Belmont School Community. Much thanks and appreciation to the South Island Partnership (SIP), Camosun, Elder Henry, and all of the Belmont staff and students who helped to make it such a wonderful day.

CPA’s BC’s Prestigious Annual Provincial High School Accounting Competition

This spring, Eidan Poucel Mendez, from our Accounting 12 class, finished in first place in CPA BC’s prestigious annual provincial high school accounting competition! Eidan competed against hundreds of students from public and private schools across BC to solve a variety of accounting challenges. His critical thinking skills and ability to thoroughly solve problems impressed CPA BC’s judges, and he was honoured along with his accounting teacher, Tom Grainger, at the Top 25 Awards Ceremony held in Vancouver earlier this month.

In addition to bringing home trophies, Eidan also won a $1500 scholarship along with a $500 grant for the business program at Belmont!

We are so proud of Eidan who has accomplished so much in our business program. Not only did he win first place in the CPA competition, but he has also completed two dual-credit courses business courses here at Belmont, so along with many of his peers, he will leave us this June having already earned top marks in both Marketing 110 and Accounting 110 through our partnership with Camosun College.

In the attached photo from the trophy presentation is Larry Jung from CPA BC, Tom, and Eidan’s parents, Galaxia and Jose.

Grad Blood Donation Drive

Two of our wonderful Graduating students, Ella H and Layla T, organized a Grad Blood Donation drive that took place on June 12. Thank you to all of the Grads who took time to donate blood! If any community members would like to donate for the Belmont Grad team, you can do so by providing the team name, ‘Belmont Secondary School’ when you donate.

Belmont Business students lead the way in National stock challenge!

Congratulations to all of the students in Belmont’s business program who took part in this year’s Junior Achievement National Stock Market Challenge! This year, 2461 student teams competed from coast-to-coast to see who could grow a simulated $100,000 into the largest portfolio of stocks and ETFs over the course of six weeks. In what was a close race, several Belmont students spent significant time this year in the top 3 in all of Canada! The teams of Ryan Berger and Caleb W,, Noah S., and Dylan R., Adam A., and Ryan R., all spent time in first, second or third nationally. In addition, Hunter T. and Rhys Mcspent time in the top 10 nationally. While the top team at the end of the six weeks came from Canmore, Alberta, we are proud of all the Belmont students who took part and led the country this year!

Daycare visit to Ms. Elizondo’s Class

On June 13th, Ms. Elizondo’s morning Art class had a delightful visit from little buddies representing our community daycares. The purpose was to foster creativity and friendship through activities like sock puppet making, bubble painting, finger painting, and drawing. Everyone shared laughs, juice, and unforgettable memories. Thank you to everyone that  donated socks and materials to make this day possible.

Some Belmont art students are taking part in an art show starting June 22nd
